craquelure

''Since brass, nor stone, nor earth, nor boundless sea,
But sad mortality o'ersways their power,
How with this rage shall beauty hold a plea,
Whose action is no stronger than a flower?''
                            W. Shakespeare.

Nothing is eternal. The world is subject to natural ageing. Slow, irreversible changes that matter undergoes over time, may be rejected but may also fascinate and impress with its beauty. Faded colours, delaminated surfaces, rust, cracks, and cob webs serve as inspirations for the collection.

Temporal changes affect not only the appearance, but also the structure of objects. Shape deformations due to stretching, drying or shrinking are core to the hypertrophied silhouettes of the collection. Utilising fine lace the collection embodies the nature of webs and craquelure.

Delicate, soft and luxurious, these unique pieces use large knitted wool or sheer, translucent silk laces to symbolise fragility, tenderness and beauty of the female nature.
